The final day of the Democratic National Convention in Denver Thursday night ended in a huge bang with an hour long speech from Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. The official start of the 2008-2009 College Football season was under way and yes, this is the final pre-season game for the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos are favored against the Arizona Cardinals in their betting lines which are: Money Line: +130/ Point Spread: +3 (-120)/ Total Points: Over 37. The Broncos (1-2) face the Cardinals (2-1) after the Cardinals posted a 24-0 shutout against the Oakland Raiders last week. In their last nine pre-season finales, the Broncos have posted an 8-1 record and have averaged a 27.7 points per game. Quarterback Jay Cutler has led Denver to points (5 TDs, 1 FG) on 6/10 drives he has started this pre-season while registering the best completion percentage (69.8) and second-best passer rating (117.6) among NFL quarterbacks.

The Broncos are still rebuilding their offensive line. Their starting line consists of two new tackles, Ryan Harris and Ryan Clady in their first year as starters, the duo have yet to allow a sack through three pre-season games. As a team, the Broncos have not allowed a sack through the first seven quarters of the pre-season.

Broncos’ rookie receiver Eddie Royal, the team’s 2nd-round draft pick has earned a starting spot opposite to Brandon Marshall. The former Virginia Tech Hokie has caught 4 passes for 80 yards during the pre-season. Royal is going to have to step up since Marshall is suspended for ONLY the Monday Night opener against the Oakland Raiders. The NFL announced Thursday, that Marshall’s suspension will be reduced following Marshall’s appeal. Marshall’s suspension will officially begin Saturday, August 30. He is eligible to return to the Broncos active roster Tuesday, September 9 after the MNF opener. Watch out fantasy footballers, Marshall is no longer a late round pick. Go Broncos!
